The Best Things to Drink in the Morning to begin Your Day Right

What is the first thing that your body wants in the morning when you wake up? Often times it is something to drink. During sleep our body is still digesting, absorbing, eliminating and respiring, all of which require water to function effectively. Even if you have a glass of water or tea before bed, your body will still often wake up parched. After drinking alcohol before bed, your body will be especially dehydrated and thirsty.


Though some people may go right for coffee or black tea in the morning, to kick start their day, (both have a lot of caffeine) this is often not the best idea. Both drinks actually dehydrate the body, which isn't an effective and smart start to the day. Rather that opting right now caffeinated beverages, below are some great morning drinks that promote a good digestion and help to cleanse our body when it is empty.

Water- Often this may be the first thing we need, a big glass of cold water.It could be a good idea to keep a bottle of water next to your bed when you wake up in the middle of the night, very thirsty.We need about eight, eight ounce glasses of water a day, so starting the day out, and continuing to drink water throughout the day, is a great practice to get into.

Tea- A weak mild herb tea can good morning starter, especially in the cold winter months. This milder tea has less caffeine and therefore will be more hydrating than dehydrating.

Honey and hot water- Adding honey to hot water will not only taste delicious but also help to kick start your day by promoting a healthy immune system. Raw honey is a super food that strengths our bodies antibodies and immunity.

Fresh fruit smoothie- There isn't a better way to get all of your fruits and vegetables in the morning, than making a smoothie. You can combine a variety of fruits and veggies, yogurt, juice, protein powder, whatever you please. This smoothie will not only quench your thirst, but can also serve as a delicious and nutritious breakfast.

Rejuvelac- This is the liquid made by soaking sprouted wheat, this liquid is suppose to promote and improve the digestive system. The enzymes in the sprouted wheat enliven and ferment the water to make a delicious, lemony-tasting drink. This isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it can be something to try.

Kefir- This is milk fermented with a particular combination of bacteria and yeast. It is made in a similar way to yogurt, but remains quite runny and seems to have a more complex flavor. Researchers believe kefir is an important factor in the renowned longevity of certain areas of Eastern Europe, where it has been made for centuries. Apparently it is a tonic for digestive system, especially the stomach lining. Though this might not be the first thing you want to drink in the morning, it can pair nicely with breakfast and can be fun to experiment with.
